Combining two luxurious manufacturers, this 2006 Rapido 996M is a premium A class motorhome, housing a drop down overcab bed, front lounge, fixed transverse bed and a large garage. The external design of the 996M is highly attractive, with a streamlined body-shape and coordinating graphics. Alloy wheels and a chrome bumper displaying the Mercedes-Benz emblem improve the look further. The habitation door is positioned on the offside, and has an electric step for easy access into the motorhome. Above is a Thule Omnistor roll out awning, which creates an outdoor living space. Also on the offside is an underslung gas cylinder locker, along with a pull out storage locker, external BBQ point, external 240v socket, Thetford toilet locker and a large door allowing access to the garage. There is a smaller door on the nearside for the garage too, as well as the water inlet point, hook-up point and a cab entrance door. To the rear of the 996m is a Fiamma bike rack, reversing camera and a roof ladder. External specification is completed through a self-seeking satellite system and a solar panel, both of which are roof-mounted.
The quality of the interior is second to none, it has been very well thought-out and fitted. Leather upholstery provides a luxurious feel, whilst the woodwork is finished to a very high standard. Taking a look at the cab area you will see that twin seats are housed, both of which have the ability to swivel and add to the lounge facility just behind. Specification levels are excellent too, you have: ABS, power steering, electrically adjustable mirrors, cruise control, cab air conditioning, cab blinds, ASR, 12v socket, air suspension and a radio player. The base vehicle of the Le Randonneur is the highly sought after Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2.7 CDI, further enhanced with the Sprintshift automatic gearbox. This 996M has covered just 36,580 miles from new.
Above the cab is your first sleeping arrangement within a drop down double bed. The quality of the mattress is very good and assures an excellent night's sleep. Lighting to the area is provided through a roof-light and a couple of soft lights on the left hand-side. When not in use the bed raises and securely fastens to prevent it from descending when driving.
The lounge area consists of twin facing sofa's, offering high levels of comfort. With each cab seat rotating, individuals are able to relax and stretch out on the settees. For dining there is a large table, which folds over to extend. Storage spaces can be found within overhead lockers and space beneath the seating, whilst lighting sources are provided through side windows, a large roof-light and an assortment of soft lights. To complete the area there is a flatscreen Avtex television unit, which is directly wired to the satellite system for access to extended channels, controls for which can be found above the habitation door.
Rapido have developed a very successful kitchen layout, which is still used in the brand new motorhomes of today. Split into two sections, the configuration houses high quality appliances to assure an easy cooking experience. There is an oven/grill combi on the nearside, with a three burner gas ring hob above. An extractor fan removes cooking smells, whilst the circular sink is on the right hand side and has a chrome mixer tap. For Storage is also located on the nearside within lockers, cupboards and drawers. Directly opposite on the offside you have a Dometic dual-fuel fridge freezer unit, which has a wooden finish to blend with the surroundings.
The fixed transverse bed is accessed easily with designated steps. Again, the quality of the mattress is very good and assures a great night's sleep. Overhead lockers provide storage spaces, whilst a large wardrobe is very useful too. Windows either-side of the bed provide views and natural light.
Like the kitchen, the washroom is split into two sections to create a more roomy feel throughout the 996M. On the offside is the Thetford electric flush swivel toilet, along with the wash basin, which has a chrome mixer tap and a vanity unit below. Additional storage can be found within a cupboard, whilst natural light and ventilation sources are provided in good numbers through a window and roof-light. The separate shower unit is on the nearside and has chrome fittings along with a sliding door.
