This 2008 Auto-Sleeper Hampshire is a high quality two berth motorhome. It has been designed exclusively for touring couples and focuses on comfort, from its Ford Transit cab to its luxurious, electronically adjustable bench seat/bed system. The nicely rounded, almost bullish-looking Ford cab blends well with the overcab area and mostly all-white bodywork. The silver bumper/grill provides a smart look and combines well with Transit wheel trims, completing the external appearance. The Hampshire presents a neat rear: quite plain with white bumpers, a good-looking road light cluster and stainless steel roof ladder. A Fiamma bike rack has been fitted as an option, along with a tow-bar and a reversing camera. Elsewhere, the locker doors and wind-out awning integrate well with the lines of the bodywork.
Auto-Sleepers are well known for their luxurious, cosy interiors, and the Hampshire is no exception. It is very well lit through-out and the quality of the fixtures is second to none. The front cab area is well designed and spacious. The driving position is good and the seats are comfortable on long journeys, thanks to supportive height-adjustable seats, both with centre armrests. Throughout the cab, useful storage bins, cubby holes, and bottle and glass holders are provided, including lidded map trays in the dashboard and a mobile phone slot. Other cab equipment includes: ABS, power steering, ESP, electric windows and mirrors, leather steering wheel with cruise control and audio functions, air conditioning, 12v socket and a radio player. Ford’s powerful 2.4 litre TDCi engine is well matched to this size of van, and the combination of the six-speed gearbox and cruise control makes for effortless motorway driving. This particular example has covered just 12,500 miles from new.
The central kitchen is well equipped with everything needed for an easy cooking experience. On the far right is a full sized oven/grill, with a three burner hob and electric hotplate above. To the left is a stainless steel sink, which has a chrome mixer tap and a chinchilla glass cover. There is also a Dometic dual-fuel fridge freezer unit, completed with a wooden cover to match the surroudings. A bonus is the built-in 800W microwave oven, which this is positioned separately, on the opposite side, below the TV locker at the foot end of the bench seats. There is a powerful, three-speed extractor vent in the roof above the kitchen area which will minimise kitchen smells. Between the cooker and fridge is a cupboard with a waste bin, cutlery drawer and single shelf. Above are two lockers: one for crockery storage, the other with a middle shelf. There are clever extendable surface options within the area too.
Lounging is a joy in the Hampshire. The area feels light with its three panoramic windows and facing bench seats with central, three-drawer dresser unit between. Six can be seated comfortably in this area. The dresser has a flip-top to act as an occasional table, whilst a large freestanding table can be found in the wardrobe. At the end of the offside bench seat, there is an illuminated drinks cupboard, with holders for wine glasses and bottles. The main highlight of the lounge is the excellent Frolexus bed system: stretch out on the bench, pick up the remote control and electrically adjust head, foot and centre portions of the mattress to achieve your favoured position.
When it comes to sleeping the lounge area is utilised as twin single beds. The Reflex foam single-piece mattress rests on individual spring elements (whose tension can be adjusted). These provide point-by-point support and can be adapted to an individual’s body contour and weight. Once tucked up in bed, you just reach down for the remote control and adjust the lift at head, middle and foot sections of the mattress to achieve the perfect sleeping position. This revolutionary idea is one of the main reasons as to why the Hampshire is so sought after.
The washroom area is located directly behind the driver's seat. Inside, no room is wasted. Auto-Sleeper has managed to fit a corner sink with a double cupboard below, a mirror, soap dish, toothbrush holder and handy wall-mounted liquid soap dispenser. The electric flush swivel toilet is on the right hand side, whilst the separate shower head is fixed to the wall. A ribbed rubber-mesh duckboard covers the entire washroom floor and a frosted window provides privacy to the area.
